Self-published is hard work.
Don't get me wrong—there are real advantages to publishing your own book. Though being my own editor isn't my favorite task, I've learned some valuable tips that help me through the process. One trick I use is reading the book backward, from the last chapter to the first. It's easy to get so immersed in the story that your brain unconsciously fixes mistakes without you noticing. Reading aloud is another powerful technique—it reveals awkward phrasing and helps the narrative flow smoothly. Never hesitate to rewrite, and rewrite again. And if, by some miracle, your manuscript feels perfect, give it one more check. These are the strategies that work for me. With love, Your Horror Queen, K.C. Anavrin
